Ensure the highest academic standards within academic programs
The University is actively involved in the development and implementation of innovative policies and procedures related to teaching and learning including adopting procedures to ensure continuous improvement. In this regard the plan for the coming year is to establish a Quality Assurance Department that will facilitate recognition by the relevant national, regional and international accreditation bodies.
Create and maintain an environment that supports student learning and development
We are an ICT institution with the goal of producing engineers and information science and technology specialists. We understand that staff professional development and career promotion is a prerequisite for accomplishment of that goal. Therefore we have a plan for improvement of work conditions and introduction of scientific research to facilitate staff development.
Academic Advice UnitEstablishment of the Academic Advice Unit which provides effective and accessible advice and counselling for incoming students as well as alumni and serves as a resource for departmental advice. It should also provide effective advice on major and career options based on a comprehensive analysis of each student’s academic skills and interests and provide appropriate academic interventions that ensure student success.
Curriculum Development
The efficient utilization of the University network of collaborative agreements with national and international institutions of higher education and scientific research for staff and student exchange training and curricular development. In that regard to continue with the on-going revision, updating and improving of the curricula of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence in collaboration with the University of Torino and the program of Architecture and Design and the program of Geoinformatics and Remote Sensing with the University of Venice.
The Credit Hour System
In preparation for full implementation of the Credit Hour System we will start restructuring the curricula of the different programs to ensure the proper placement of foundation courses according to international standards and to ensure the smooth flow of students through the programs with the specialized courses and their prerequisites correctly ordered.
A minor program in nanotechnology in the Faculty of Engineering.
The University, in collaboration with Pennsylvania State University, USA is introducing courses of Nano Science and Technology as a minor for the Engineering students. The students will be exposed to Nano-science and technology through brief and small dozes in the relevant courses of physics, chemistry and mathematics and gradually moving to more applications of Nano-sciences in Engineering.
IDEAS aims to be fully operational by the start of the 2013-2014 academic year but hopes to have a small initial group of researchers working by October 2012.
