Future University seeks to develop a centre which enables Sudanese graduates to take their innovative ideas from prototypes, through rigorous research and development (R+D) to high quality, marketable products or services that will benefit Sudan. A carefully selected group of Future University students will be invited to apply for places at IDEAS, based on the potential of their final project and themselves as researchers. IDEAS staff will act as mentors from the initial application process right through the R+D phase, encouraging the development of researchers and entrepreneurs by modelling best practice, organising appropriate training and stimulating open collaboration amongst IDEAS colleagues and more widely.
IDEAS will itself exemplify environmentally sound, sustainable application of new ideas, from the construction of its premises to its methods of collaboration and ongoing professional development programme. IDEAS will also play a role in canvassing industry and other parties for the ideas which students might begin to implement in the final project.
IDEAS aims to be fully operational by the start of the 2013-2014 academic year but hopes to have a small initial group of researchers working by October 2012.
